Did you ever collect bugs in a jar as a child? The insect watcher takes insect collecting and observing to a new level. The lid is a 2x magnifying glass and includes a flip-up magnifying glass for 4x magnification. A square background allows you to compare the size of the insects.
Collecting insects is called entomology, and those who collect and study insects are known as entomologists. The word comes from a 2,300-year-old work by Aristotle that classified insects as entoma. Initial interest in entomology was stimulated by a doctor named Francesco Redi, who experimented on meat to find out where the worms came from. Their discoveries (worms are fly larvae!) led to increased interest in insect life cycles. The work continues, as entomologists continue to identify and name new insect species on a regular basis.
