Kalandraka The King's New Clothes

$18.00

Many years ago there lived a king who spent his time wearing new suits and dresses, and spent his country's fortune buying the most expensive fabrics. The king ignored government affairs and did nothing but ride in a carriage through the park, go to the theater, review the troops... Always to show off his new costumes!

KALANDRAKA presents this adaptation of the classic story by Hans Christian Andersen, which highlights its illustrations, based on collage and inlays of textile material. The aesthetic proposal offers a second reading of the text, which plays with the real and the wonderful, leaving room for surprise, fascination, strangeness, and always seeking to keep the reader active.

João Caetano plays with various symbols and gives humor a very important role: he winks at the reader and subtly ironizes, building visual metaphors in the background, such as the mannequin that mocks the king or the monarch's crown.

The images in this illustrated album were selected to participate in an international exhibition organized by the International Youth Library in Munich and the Museum of Book Illustration in Troisdorf (Germany) to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Andersen's birth.
